Hydro dipping is suitable for a wide variety of automotive parts, including interior trim, dashboard components,
centre consoles, engine covers, brackets, mirror housings and other removable components.
Whether you’re restoring a classic vehicle, refreshing tired interior trim or creating something completely bespoke,
our hydro dipping service can provide a unique and professional finish.
At Retro Auto Works, we offer professional hydro dipping, also known as water transfer printing,
to transform a wide range of automotive components with high-quality, durable finishes.
Hydro dipping allows intricate patterns and finishes to be applied to components of almost any shape,
including areas that can be difficult to cover using traditional vinyl wrapping or other methods.

Premium underbody protection — applied over an epoxy primer system for maximum corrosion resistance
Our premium underbody restoration process begins with a full strip-down of the underside of vehicle, removing the necessary components to allow full access to the underside. All existing underbody coatings, sealants and corrosion protection are removed, with the underside then stripped or blasted back to clean, bare metal.
Where extensive fabrication or welding is required, the bare metal is initially protected with a temporary weld-through anti-corrosion primer, helping to minimise corrosion during the fabrication process.
Once all welding and fabrication work has been completed, the underside is thoroughly cleaned or blasted back to
fresh bare metal to eliminate surface contamination and prepare it for the coating system.
A zinc-rich epoxy primer is then applied to provide an initial high level of corrosion protection and seal the bare metal.
This is followed by a conventional anti-corrosion epoxy primer, creating a durable secondary protective barrier.
Once the epoxy primer system has been applied, we use either a sprayable seam sealer to replicate the appearance and
texture of original manufacturer coatings, or a flexible bedliner-type coating for enhanced durability.
This can be finished in standard black or tinted to closely match the vehicle’s exterior colour.
After the underbody coating has fully cured, a heavy-duty cavity wax is applied at high pressure into all
appropriate enclosed sections and box cavities. This creates a flexible, self-healing barrier designed to prevent
moisture ingress and provide long-term protection against internal corrosion.
To complete the restoration, all relevant underbody components are fine-media blasted before being coated in a specialist anti-corrosive epoxy paint system. This provides a clean, durable OEM-style appearance while offering excellent resistance to moisture, road debris and the elements.
The result is a fully restored and professionally protected underbody, combining long-term
corrosion resistance with a high-quality, factory-inspired finish.
All suspension parts can also be recoated in full gloss colours for full concourse shows cars
Professional media blasting, chemical paint stripping and vapor blasting services remove paint, rust, corrosion and contaminants, preparing components for restoration, refinishing or protective coatings while achieving a clean, high-quality finish.
Long-term preservation and protection using carefully selected products to treat existing corrosion and
protect the vehicle’s body and suspension components
For vehicles that are generally in good condition with only minor surface corrosion present, a full restoration may not be necessary.
In these cases, loose and surface corrosion can be carefully removed before the affected areas are treated with a suitable gel or
acid-based rust converter. The treatment is then allowed to work for approximately 24 hours, neutralising the corrosion
and stabilising the affected metal.
Once the corrosion treatment has been completed, the vehicle is thoroughly prepared and masked as required.
An epoxy primer is then applied to the exposed and treated metal surfaces, sealing and protecting them before
a flexible spray-on underbody coating is applied.
After the coating has fully cured, all accessible enclosed box sections, chassis rails and cavities are treated with a high-pressure cavity wax. This provides long-lasting internal protection and helps prevent moisture from reaching vulnerable areas.
The final stage is the application of a water-resistant based protective coating across the underbody,
suspension and running gear. This creates a durable, moisture-resistant barrier designed to repel water,
reduce the build-up of moisture and help prevent further corrosion.
This treatment provides an effective way of preserving a sound vehicle, extending the life of existing components
and providing additional protection against the harsh conditions encountered on the road
